I tried your suggestion but it didn't work, unfortunately. Although I made certain to click on the "Remove" button this time, the package was still listed under the "Multimedia" section.
That is weird. Can you try it again? Reinstall the salix-codecs-installer package, remove the lame package and run salix-codecs-installer from a terminal with
are there any error messages?
You can also try the same with the respective command line tool:
Sure, I'm glad to experiment with this again.
After installing the salix-codecs-installer package (via Gslapt), I removed the lame package via the Terminal.
Next, I tried
and this is a cropped screenshot of the result. (It did not throw any error messages that I could see):
Since that looked like it was behaving "normally", I canceled / backed out and decided to try method #2:
A cropped screenshot of that output is below. (It also looks "normal" AFAICT):
I canceled / backed out of that, and decided to run the codecs installer via method #1
to see whether it might produce some error messages during the installation of the lame package.
The lame package was correctly installed (as expected). When the installer finished, I clicked on the "Remove" button, then quickly copied-and-pasted the Terminal output [shown below]:

Removing package salix-codecs-installer-2.2.4-noarch-1gv...
I'm not sure if that 'Warning' embedded in there constitutes an error message ... However, this time the Codecs Installer was completely / cleanly removed from the "Multimedia" section of the menu.
I can't explain why the installer entry was removed from the menu this time, but not the previous time. (I am sure that I pressed the "Remove" button last time).
So I think this might have been an odd, one-time glitch that affected only me. Hopefully no one else will have this crop up ...
Thanks for your willingness to help me troubleshoot this!
