Salix Forum hangs on Acer Aspire 5070
Hey guys, Got a new (old) laptop from a friend: Acer Aspire 5070. Installed XFCE 14.1, but it wouldn't connect to the Internet. Reverted to 13.37 and it seems to run fine... except for a few glitches. The first and most annoying is that logging into this forum, and navigating from page to page is im...

Re: iPhone 6 import on xfce 13.37
Perhaps you [were] fooled by the false impression that it is a decimal fraction. :? Yes, that's exactly right. I guess I always thought (assumed) that the version scheme followed the same logic as a decimal fraction, wherein [11>3] is true, while [.11>.3] is false. Of course now in hindsight that i...

Re: iPhone 6 import on xfce 13.37
LOL...... every time I ask you guys a question I find a solution minutes later. I realized that since all she needs is photos and movies downloaded onto her computer from her device, this solution is lightweight and elegant by contrast to all that craziness above. It requires gphoto2, which is in th...

Re: iPhone 6 import on xfce 13.37
Thanks for the response. Yeah, I definitely prefer Android, but I'm setting this up for a friend who has an iPhone. I've been in dependency hell prior to posting this. I tried installing libusbmuxd-1.0.10-1486-1.txz after building the SBo, and I got message: Requested 'libplist >= 1.11' but version ...

[SOLVED] iPhone 6 photos/movies import on xfce 13.37
Hi guys, I installed 14.1 on an older computer and it ran choppy, whereas 13.37 runs great. Everything is running sweet except..... I can't import stuff from iPhone because it isn't being recognized as a storage device. I have tried to install libimobiledevice from Sourcery.... didn't work. Any ideas?

Re: Screen cast (Record Desktop) with audio / 13.37 xfce
Hi guys. Okay, problems solved. This thread encouraged me to stay the course with gtk-RecordMyDesktop (RMD). I deleted hidden config files from previous install attempts, ran RMD from terminal and got a decent result. I reinstalled gtk-RMD and played with options forever, but I got it working. For a...

Re: Screen cast (Record Desktop) with audio / 13.37 xfce
Hey Gapan, Long story. A friend borked her Windows machine, and needed a quick and cheap solution for *extremely* basic pc usage on a 2010 Vaio (with potentially irreparable hardware issues). I got the machine working, wiped the HDD with gparted, then wanted to install a simple linux flavor for her....

[SOLVED]Screen cast (Record Desktop) with audio / 13.37 xfce
Hey guys, been awhile. I just installed 13.37 xfce for a friend on a Sony Vaio. She needs to be able to do screen casts for work. I have tried RecordMyDesktop from Sourcery, and used both the qt4 and the gtk front-ends. No option worked. I found good reviews for vokoscreen, downloaded a slackbuild, ...

Why Salix is still the best for ---> this guy <---
Hey there, Here's a Salix story for you, just for the plain geeky romance of it. Back in the 90's I asked my teen students (I'm an art teacher) "why do people tolerate the standard, legacy OS? I'm sure there must be a better solution. What is it?" They laughed and said, "Uh, why don't...

Re: Upgrading from 13.1 to 14.0 (devs please take note)
Thanks for the response, Mimosa.... I knew this was a shot in the dark, but I figured I'd try. I've always liked about Slackware that it works perfectly and will never do anything wacky and random *as long as you don't attempt to implement solutions within the system that conflict with the Slackware...
