Re: problem installing "binary plugin" for HP printer
Yes PyQt5 is there. Since I apparently managed to install the printer to MX's satisfaction, I am leaning towards the view that as well as the difficulty getting Salix to swallow it, there is a hardware fault (paper jam whatever I print, including the test page). However, before sending the printer b...

Re: problem installing "binary plugin" for HP printer
I think I have installed it successfully in another distro. But I can't be sure, because the paper jams every time it tries to print. This is probably a hardware fault, but it's difficult to be certain. The HP website for the binary plugin includes a list of distributions (not including Slackware) t...

problem installing "binary plugin" for HP printer [solved]
I've just bought an old printer on Ebay (HP Laserjet Professional p1102) and it's giving me some trouble. I've tried using CUPS and also with hplip. It says it needs a "binary plugin" which appears to be this: https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/binary_plugin.html (whic...

Re: Salix on Chromebook
One thing I have noticed though, is the Chromebook is no longer up to running XFCE. But Ratpoison is better suited to a screen that size, anyway; and everything is working perfectly with it so far.

Re: Salix on Chromebook
The partition scheme was /, and separate /home. I never do this because of problems like this: - the widgets and icons and such don't look right, for example, I see four grey black boxes at bottom left instead of xterm, thunar, browser, leafpad. Is there an easy way to tidy it up? I tried "Rebu...

Re: Salix on Chromebook
Six years later ... and still going strong! I am upgrading to 15.0, and needed to boot with the same "mem" parameter. The only reason for this is I need a recent pulseaudio to talk to some fancy bluetooth headphones I have. Or at least, the upgrade seemed the simplest way  ...

signal-desktop package out of date
This is actually two problems, I think. signal-desktop package comes from slackbuilds.org, but it has been built in the /extra repository. signal has frequent updates, and older versions don't work by design. So I removed this package, and installed it from slapt-src. I can't work out how it happene...
